EVENT BACKGROUND

Asia is seeing rapid growth and urbanisation, and there is an increasing need to develop transport services. Railway is a viable option to meet the demand for urban commuting as well as long distance travel. There are numerous railway projects in development or construction, representing billions of dollars in investment and spending.

Green technologies in rolling stock are focused on need to minimizing the use of fossil fuels, need to reducing noise and other emissions and effort to maximize fuel efficiency. There are new green practices by the railway companies and operator to preserve natural resources using latest innovation in technology to make the urban rail and freight rail even more efficient. Also included here are green technologies applied in railway, the criteria influencing adoption of green technologies in Asia Pacific, the driver and challenges for green technology adoption in Asia Pacific market.

Southeast Asia is already a key market for rail industry suppliers. The long-term nature of rail developments in the region confirms that it will be of continuing international importance.
